Introduction to the topics

Talk 1: Best practices for Docker & Kubernetes
Performance monitoring in a container & microservices world is very different from monitoring a traditional environment. During this talk, we will start by looking at some best practices to build a successful container platform. We will then look at the important performance metrics to support these best practices and show a live demo for each of them. You will learn how monitoring can help to enforce 5 best practices of building a successful container platform.

Talk 2: Your application is running. Now how to deal with the logging?
The application is stateless, runs in several instances and produces logging. But also there are several development teams. What is a simple and effective way to make sure that the logging is always moved to a central location?

About the Speakers

1. Stijn Polfliet:
Stijn joined New Relic as Principal Technical Evangelist in October 2018. Stijn was co-founder and CEO of CoScale, a provider of full stack monitoring for containers & microservices, acquired by New Relic in 2018. Stijn holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Ghent University in Belgium. His interests focus on cloud-native technologies like Docker, Kubernetes and their performance-related aspects.

2. Jan Stomphorst:
For Jan technology is a passion and a hobby that translates into work. It’s his nature to be inquisitive, tenacious and easily bored. So he likes to challenge himself and the more difficult things are, the more fun he has. From the early age of 10 he has been working on computers and automation. In the past years, he has worked for different employers in various positions, and he has seen many things along the way. It came to his understanding that as an IT architect he has to be familiar with all markets Linux, Windows, Unix, networking, Databases, Docker, etc. His goal is to understand software from its core and using tooling that he has at his disposal. When there is no suitable tooling, he creates the tooling himself.

De Nieuwe Poort is located next to Station Amsterdam South which is easy to reach by public transport. If you come by car, there are cheap parking options close to the meetup location. In the streets behind “De Boelenlaan” (5/10 minute walk) you can park for 1.40 per hour between 08:00 – 19:00. After 19:00 it’s for free.

Save the date, hope to see you then!
